Step-by-step Tutorial for Creating Accounts
Account Specifications and Formats
Before creating an account, let’s have a quick look at the specifications and formats of an Avail account.
Address Specifications
Avail is built on the Substrate framework, allowing it to provide a robust and flexible account system for allowing users to manage their digital assets and identity.
Address Format
The SS58 format is an enhanced version of base-58 encoding and is used to encode Avail addresses. Shorter and better identifiable addresses as well as network specific prefixes are two of the key advantages this provides.
Your Interface to Avail
Avail JS Apps is a fork of Polkadot JS Apps. It functions as primary interface for the network. Presently it is used to power the Goldberg Testnet Explorer. Its scope will expand as the Avail network launches its mainnet and becomes a production-ready network.
Avail JS offers different functionalities, such as:
- Accounts: Create, manage, and recover accounts.
- Staking: Network staking and manage validators.
- Explorer: Browse blockchain data.
Understanding Seed Phrases
When creating your Avail account, you will receive a seed phrase which is a series of words that you can use to recover your account. Please ensure that third parties do not have access to your seed phrase by storing it in a secure location. Anyone who has access to your seed phrase can also access your account and the funds therein.
Seed Phrase Security NEVER share your seed phrase with anyone and keep it in a secure and offline location. Anyone with access to your seed phrase can gain control of your account.
Creating an Account on the Goldberg Testnet
Step-by-Step Guide
Open Explorer
We’ll start by navigating to the Avail Network Explorer. For a detailed explanation of the explorer, please have a look at Discover the Avail Explorer.
Navigate to the Accounts Section
Next, go to Accounts in the the navigation bar and click Accounts.
Generate New Account
In the next step, simply click on the +Account button. It can be found on the right-hand side of the explorer. Doing so will initiate the account creation process.
Add Account via Seed
Clicking the +Account button opens up the wizard that walks you through the account creation process.
Please select if you want to store your seed phrase as mnemonic or as raw seed. Then, be sure to safely store your seed phrase so that you can recover your account and your funds if needed.
Confirm by clicking Next.
Set Name and Password
The wizard will now ask you to set a name and a password for your wallet. Please make sure to store your password securely as well. Confirm your choice by clicking Next.
Safe Account
In the last step, you can download your account detail. Please ensure to store this information securely.
