How to Stake AVAIL Tokens?

Step-by-Step Breakdown of Staking Avail Tokens

Staking Avail tokens is essential for the security of the Avail network and contributes to its long-term growth. This guide walks you through the process of staking AVAIL tokens.

Please Note

In this guide, we are going to use the Subwallet extension but it should work similarly with other wallet providers. Please have a look at Installing Subwallet App for a guide on how to set up your wallet.

Important

Please make sure to always use official links when interacting with Avail and check that you are on staking.avail.tools and not a fake site trying to scam you.

Step 1: Navigate to the Avail Staking Dashboard

Please visit staking.avail.tools to access the Avail Staking Dashboard.

Step 2: Connect your Wallet to the Dashboard

On the upper right hand corner, you can find the button to connect your wallet to the dashboard.

  1. Click “Connect
  2. Select your wallet provider (we are going to use SubWallet for this tutorial)
  3. Select the wallets you’d like to connect.
  4. Confirm by clicking “Connect

Once you have successfully connected your wallet, we can proceed.

Step 3: Choose Your Preferred Staking Method

The Avail network provides you with two options for staking:

  1. Staking directly (i.e. by nominating yourself for “Solo Staking“)
  2. Joining a nomination pool (for “Pool Staking“)
What’s the difference between solo staking and pool staking?

Solo staking gives you complete control over your stake but also comes with more risk. As a solo staker, you can nominate the validator of your choice. Pool staking allows you to pool your funds with other users to reduce the risk for each stakeholder but it means you have less control over your stake as the pool decides which validators are nominated.

Option #1 Staking Directly to a Validator

Becoming a Solo Staker

The following shows you how to stake directly by nominating a validator. If you’d rather prefer to join a nomination pool, feel free to jump ahead: Option #2 Joining a Nomination Pool.

Step 1: Select a Validator

Please navigate to the Validators section in the Dashboard. On this page, you’ll find a list of all active validators in the network.

The overview page also shows you metrics about each validator, allowing you to make an informed decision about which validator to select.

You can select a total of 16 validators to nominate.

Step 2: Nominate a Validator

Once you have identified a validator you wish to nominate, please navigate to the Nominate section in the Dashboard.

In the next step, please click “Start Nominating” to continue.

Step 3: Select Payout Destination

Next, select the payout destination to decide how your staking rewards are managed. Confirm your choice by clicking the “Continue” button.

What payout destinations can I choose from?

You can choose between the following options:

  • Allow Withdraw (staking rewards are automatically sent to your wallet)
  • Allow Compound (staking rewards are automatically compounded)
  • Permissioned (staking rewards are sent to another address of your choice)

Step 4: Define Validator Selection

The UI will now ask you if you wish to generate your nomination automatically or if you wish to manually insert them. Confirm your choice by clicking the “Continue” button.

Which options do I have for nominating validators?

You can choose between the following options:

  • Optimal selection (selects top performing and active validators)
  • Active low commission (high performing validators with low commissions)
  • From favorites (selects based on your favorites)
  • Manual selection (manually add validators from skratch)

Step 5: Set Nomination Bond

You can now stake your Avail tokens by defining the bond. Confirm your choice by clicking the “Start Nominating” button and Approve the transaction.

A minimum of 1,000 Avail need to be bonded to nominate a validator.

Option #2 Joining a Nomination Pool

Exploring Staking Pools

Let’s have a look how the process of joining a nomination pool looks like.

Step 1: Navigate to the Pools Section

Please navigate to the Pools section in the Dashboard.

Step 2: Select Pool

In the next step, please click on “All Pools” to see an overview of all available pools in the network. On this page, you’ll find a list of all active pools in the network.

Please click on the “More” button of the pool of your choice and then “Join Pool” to confirm your selection.

A minimum of 100 Avail is needed to join a pool. A minimum of 10,000 Avail is needed to create a pool.
That’s it!

Congratulations, you have successfully staked your tokens by either nominating a validator or joining a pool.
